    Overvåkning av Glomma, Vorma og Øyeren 2012

    Høsten 2012 ble det tatt bunndyr- og begroingsprøver på fem stasjoner i Glomma og én i Vorma. I Øyeren ble det tatt prøver av planteplankton og vannkjemi. Gjennomsnittlig konsentrasjon av total fosfor og klorofyll a var henholdsvis 9.5 µg/l og 2.45 µg/l, tilsvarende svært god økologisk tilstand. Algesammensetningen viste et stort mangfold med lave konsentrasjonen av blågrønnalger. Ved Høyegga i Glomma ble det påvist høye konsentrasjoner av kobber (6 prøver: 4.6-6.4 µg/l), tilsvarende sterkt forurenset tilstand (Klif 1997). På de fleste stasjonene i Glomma var det forholdsvis lave konsentrasjoner av suspenderte partikler (<0.8-4.3 mg/l), totalt fosfor (3-14 µg/l) og totalt nitrogen (200-555 µg/l). De høyeste konsentrasjonene ble påvist på de nederste stasjonene. Basert på alge­begroing hadde de tre øverste stasjonene (Prestfoss, Gjølstadfoss, Bingsfoss) i Glomma svært god-, og de to nederste god tilstand (Solbergfoss, Sarpsfoss). Det var god økologisk tilstand ved Svanfoss i Vorma. Basert på bunndyrsamfunnet var den økologiske tilstanden på øverste stasjon svært god, moderat ved Solbergfoss og god på de øvrige. Den økologiske tilstanden ved Svanfoss var god. Det biologiske mangfoldet uttrykt som antall EPT-arter i bunnfaunaen varierte fra 18 ved Prestfoss til 10 ved Bingsfoss. Bunndyr og algebegroing viste samme tilstandsklasse på tre av seks stasjoner i 2012. På de øvrige stasjonene ga bunndyrindeksen en dårligere tilstand. Basert på vannvegetasjonen karakteriseres undersøkte områder i Vorma som svært gode i forhold til eutrofiering.FM i Oslo og Akershus, Hedmark og Østfol

    Quality assurance of the solar UV network in the Antarctic

    Measuring ultraviolet radiation in the Antarctic region, where weather conditions are extremely challenging, is a demanding task. Proper quality control of the measurements and quality assurance of the data, which are the basis of all scientific use of data, has to be especially well planned and executed. In this paper we show the importance of proper quality assurance and describe the methods used to successfully operate the NILU-UV multichannel radiometers of the Antarctic network stations at Ushuaia, 54S, and Marambio, 64S. According to our experience, even though multichannel instruments are supposed to be rather stable as a function of time, severe drifts can occur in the sensitivity of the channels under these harsh conditions. During 2000–2003 the biggest drifts were 35%, both at Ushuaia and Marambio, with the sensitivity of the channels dropping at different rates. Without proper corrections in the data, this would have seriously affected the calculated UV dose rates. As part of the quality assurance of the network a traveling reference NILU-UV, which was found to be stable, was used to transfer the desired irradiance scale to the site NILU-UV data. Relative lamp tests were used to monitor the stability of the instruments. Each site NILU-UV was scaled channel by channel to the traveling reference by performing solar comparisons. The method of scaling each channel separately was found to be successful, even though the differences between the raw data of the site NILU-UV and the reference instruments were, before the data correction, as much as 40%. After the correction, the mean ratios of erythemally weighted UV dose rates measured during the solar comparisons in 2000–2003 between the reference NILU-UV and the site NILU-UV were 1.007 ± 0.011 and 1.012 ± 0.012 for Ushuaia and Marambio, respectively, when the solar zenith angle varied up to 80. These results make possible the scientific use of NILU-UV data measured simultaneously at quite different locations, e.g., the Antarctic and Arctic, and the method presented is also practicable for other multichannel radiometer networks.S, and Marambio, 64S.     BACKGROUND: Multiples indices have been described using tissue Doppler imaging (DTI) capabilities. The aim of this study was to assess the capability of one or several regional DTI parameters in separating control from ischemic myocardium. METHODS: Twenty-eight patients with acute myocardial infarction were imaged within 24-hour following an emergent coronary angioplasty. Seventeen controls without any coronary artery or myocardial disease were also explored. Global and regional left ventricular functions were assessed. High frame rate color DTI cineloop recordings were made in apical 4 and 2-chamber for subsequent analysis. Peak velocity during isovolumic contraction time (IVC), ejection time, isovolumic relaxation (IVR) and filling time were measured at the mitral annulus and the basal, mid and apical segments of each of the walls studied as well as peak systolic displacement and peak of strain. RESULTS: DTI-analysis enabled us to discriminate between the 3 populations (controls, inferior and anterior AMI). Even in non-ischemic segments, velocities and displacements were reduced in the 2 AMI populations. Peak systolic displacement was the best parameter to discriminate controls from AMI groups (wall by wall, p was systematically < 0.01). The combination IVC + and IVR< 1 discriminated ischemic from non-ischemic segments with 82% sensitivity and 85% specificity. CONCLUSION: DTI-analysis appears to be valuable in ischemic heart disease assessment. Its clinical impact remains to be established. However this simple index might really help in intensive care unit routine practice

    The European Heart Journal - Cardiovascular Imaging was launched in 2012. It has gained an impressive impact factor of 8.336 during its first 6 years and is now established as one of the top 10 cardiovascular journals in the world and the most important cardiovascular imaging journal in Europe. The most important studies published in the journal in 2017 will be highlighted in two reports. Part I will focus on studies about myocardial function, coronary artery disease and myocardial ischaemia, and emerging techniques and applications in cardiovascular imaging, whereas Part II will focus on valvular heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, and congenital heart disease

    Regional myocardial function after intracoronary bone marrow cell injection in reperfused anterior wall infarction - a cardiovascular magnetic resonance tagging study

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Trials have brought diverse results of bone marrow stem cell treatment in necrotic myocardium. This substudy from the Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation in Acute Myocardial Infarction trial (ASTAMI) explored global and regional myocardial function after intracoronary injection of autologous mononuclear bone marrow cells (mBMC) in acute anterior wall myocardial infarction treated with percutaneous coronary intervention.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) tagging was performed 2-3 weeks and 6 months after revascularization in 15 patients treated with intracoronary stem cell injection (mBMC group) and in 13 controls without sham injection. Global and regional left ventricular (LV) strain and LV twist were correlated to cine CMR and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE).</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In the control group myocardial function as measured by strain improved for the global LV (6 months: -13.1 ± 2.4 versus 2-3 weeks: -11.9 ± 3.4%, p = 0.014) and for the infarct zone (-11.8 ± 3.0 versus -9.3 ± 4.1%, p = 0.001), and significantly more than in the mBMC group (inter-group p = 0.027 for global strain, respectively p = 0.009 for infarct zone strain). LV infarct mass decreased (35.7 ± 20.4 versus 45.7 ± 29.5 g, p = 0.024), also significantly more pronounced than the mBMC group (inter-group p = 0.034). LV twist was initially low and remained unchanged irrespective of therapy.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>LGE and strain findings quite similarly demonstrate subtle differences between the mBMC and control groups.
